Ardmore Block Named After Native Killed In Vietnam
The 200 block of Chestnut Avenue in Ardmore will be renamed to 1st Lt. Paul T. Short Jr. Way, an Ardmore native killed during active duty.
ARDMORE, PA — A portion of an Ardmore road was renamed in honor of an Ardmore native who lost his life while serving in the Vietnam conflict.
Wednesday night, Lower Merion Township Commissioners announced the 200 block of Chestnut Avenue in Ardmore will be renamed to 1st Lt. Paul T. Short Jr. Way.
Short grew up on that block and was killed on Feb. 3, 1967 in Vietnam.

Resident Wendell Holland Sr. proposed the renaming and local veterans groups backed it.
According to township officials, Short was born Aug. 9, 1942, graduated from Lower Merion High School in 1960, and attended Temple University.

Short served as an officer in Vietnam, which was relatively uncommon at the time.
His childhood home still sit on Chestnut Avenue and his sisters still live in Ardmore.
Former Lower Merion Township Commissioner Maryam Phillips said Short deserves to be known by future generations that he was one of the township's "biggest and brightest stars."
