Ardmore Gets New Solar-Powered Trash, Recycling Bins
The bins compact trash themselves and notify public works crews when they are full, making them environmentally friendly in multiple ways.

ARDMORE, PA — Lower Merion's efforts to keep Ardmore pristine and trash free got a boost recently.
Public Works Department crews were out installing new, environmentally friendly "Bigbelly" side-by-side trash and recycling containers in downtown Ardmore.
Nine new set of the receptacles have been installed in the downtown area, adding to the previously installed bins in the Bryn Mawr area.

These Bigbelly bins are solar powered and compact trash automatically. They also alert public works crews when they are full.
The township said it plans to install more Bigbellys in other township shopping and restaurant districts next year.

"The Bigbelly containers streamline operations for trash and recycling crews, and cut down on trash that would occasionally spill out of the traditional public street cans," the township said. "They are positioned in the places in the public right-of-way where they are needed most, keeping the community clean."
