Armed Carjacker Pretended To Be Solar Salesman: Lower Merion Police

Police said the man seen here carjacked a person early Monday evening in Penn Wynne and forced the victim to drive to ATMs for withdrawals.

PENN WYNNE, PA — Lower Merion Township Police are asking for help finding a carjacking suspect in connection with a Monday incident.

According to police, the incident occurred at about 5 p.m. Monday at a home on the 200 block of Wilshire Road in Penn Wynne.

Police said the victim pulled up to his home and found the suspect in his driveway.

The suspect pretended to be a solar power solicitor and spoke with the victim.

When the victim walked to his door, the suspect pulled a gun on him, police said.

Police said the suspect forced the victim into his vehicle, then told him to go to banks for money withdrawals at ATMs.

The victim was able to jump out of the moving vehicle as it was heading north on the 1800 block of Broad Street, police said.

The vehicle continued forward and struck a parked vehicle before stopping on a sidewalk, police said.

The suspect then ran from the vehicle onto Norris Street, police said.

He is described as a black man, 20 to 30 years old, standing about 6 feet 1 inch tall with an athletic build, and a light-to-medium complexion, police said.

He was wearing a surgical mask, a dark hooded sweatshirt, a dark jacket with a logo or writing over the left chest, dark pants, and dark shoes, according to police.

Police said he was also wearing a lanyard with an ID card pouch.

The suspect is considered armed and dangerous.
