Parking is available on-site; however, carpooling is recommended.
The school's name was chosen for its connection to the distinctive serpentine formation of black rocks in the area, which were noted by the indigenous Lenni Lenape in what is now Lower Merion Township.
Black Rock students chose The Royals as the school's mascot.
The district constructed the school due to increasing enrollment numbers in the district.
