Oh no I didn't!

Closet smarts 101! How to make good choices for your wardrobe during your next shopping trip!

Oh no I didn’t!  Oh yes I did…UGH!!  That is how I felt after my oldest son was born every time I went into a store to shop with my post baby body, my post baby budget and my post baby time.   None of which looked remotely the same as they did before he was born.

Being someone who always loved clothes and shopping for myself and for others all my life I was surprised…no make that shocked . . . that I would go into some of my favorite haunts and either walk out empty handed or with major regret over what I bought.  Who knew that I didn’t need to buy a fancy white blouse to go to the playground or roll around on the floor with my son?

After a few months of feeling this way and getting frustrated that I had ‘nothing to wear’ even though I had a closet full of clothes… I decided it was time to take action… so I took a long hard look at what was in my closet and what my new body looked like and I got real!  I took out everything in my closet and purged (packed up for charity) what I knew I would never wear again (like the suit I used for my first job interview when I was 23 years old) and put away the things I hoped I would fit into again (which by the way didn’t come for 3 years after my first born…since my second was born 18 month after the first).  The rest stayed but most of it was totally wrong for my new mommy lifestyle.

So I decided to make a plan and tackle my wardrobe issues head on… the first thing I did was make a list of where I was spending my days and what items I thought would help me get to those places on time and feeling good about myself (tall order)!  It did take a lot of time and planning but it was worth it!  So much so that I thought if a girl like me who had years of experience getting dressed and helping other get dressed (I grew up working in my mother’s clothing store) had this problem so might others… so my 3rd baby was born in 2005 when wardrobe consulting for real women with real lives, real budgets and real bodies became my day and occasional night job.

SO many great things came out of my experience… feeling better about myself, helping others feeling better about themselves and a job I love to do every day!
