White Night!

White night...fright night...not any more!

So… I always get asked the following questions:

  1. Can I really wear white before/after Memorial/Labor Day ?
  2. How can I wear white without my undergarments showing?
  3. Can I wear white shoes without feeling/looking  like my grandmother? (not a compliment in most cases)

The answer to all these questions is YES, YES, YES!!!  White is one of my favorite colors (or non-colors for those art aficionados out there)!

Yes… you can wear white before Memorial Day and after Labor Day!  Those ‘rules’ are old school! It is more about the fabric of your white pieces and less about the color!  Even black linen pants shouldn’t be worn after Labor Day!

Yes… you can wear white without your undergarments showing! The key to success is to match your undergarments as closely as possible to your skin color while avoiding lace, prints, and white (believe it or not, white will show the most lines)!

Yes... you can wear white shoes without looking or feeling like your grandma! White shoes are coming back into the most stylish of women’s closets! Now I don’t mean for you to go out and buy white loafers, but think of trying a white flip flop like these from Diane Von Furstenberg, these cute sandals from Steve Madden or these wedges from Sbicca.

Some Wardrobe Wizard Wisdom: Try putting a white camisole (fitted, of course) under a blouse or sweater that just isn’t working for you or to breathe new life into your favorite go to top!  Adding white to these pieces gives depth to your look!  Similar to adding pillows to your couch or placing a matte into a framed picture!  Then button the over garment in a new way (maybe leave a few buttons at the top and/or the bottom of the top undone) for a sexier yet classy look!  It doesn’t matter if the coordinating piece has any white in it…as a matter of fact in most cases it might be better if  it doesn’t!
