Bryn Mawr Hospital's Mary deSimone Receives Nurse.com G.E.M. Award

Mary deSimone, Emergency Department Nurse Manager, Bryn Mawr Hospital, part of Main Line Health, was named the winner in the Patient and Staff Management category at the recent G.E.M. (Giving Excellence Meaning) Awards celebration sponsored by Nurse.com.

“Hearing the finalist nominations read aloud was humbling as I realized the extent to which nursing has affected positive change in their institutions and to our profession,” deSimone said. “I am proud to represent Bryn Mawr Hospital and Main Line Health. They have afforded me many opportunities to grow. I am also very aware this honor is reflective of an entire team of individuals.”

The nomination entry included this comment: “Mary has contributed immeasurably to improving patient outcomes and the nursing work environment at Bryn Mawr Hospital through her leadership and advocacy. She works tirelessly to ensure patients and their families receive optimal care and has been a source of strength for her staff through challenging and difficult patient experiences.”

A total of six MLH nurses were finalists for the G.E.M. Award this year:
• Volunteerism and Service – Laurie Watson, director of Patient Experience, Lankenau Medical Center, and Meghann Horst, oncology staff nurse, Paoli Cancer Center
• Home Community and Ambulatory Care – Elizabeth Ann Sunderland, medical oncology nurse navigator, Paoli Cancer Center, and Deb Mantegna, community health manager, Riddle Hospital
• Advancing and Leading the Profession – Eileen Phillips, director, Acute Care Services, Riddle Hospital

The G.E.M. awards draw hundreds of applicants from Southeastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware who are nominated by Nurse.com readers.
