Candidates Needed For 2 Lower Merion Township Boards

There are spaces that need to be filled on the Health Advisory Council and Human Relations Commission, the township said.

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA – Candidates are needed to fill seats on two Lower Merion Township boards and you can apply for a spot now through Wednesday, Sept. 20.

According to the township, positions need to be filled on the Health Advisory Council and Human Relations Commission.

The Health Advisory Council is seeking individuals with backgrounds in social work, mental health, psychiatry, or emergency medical services (first responders) are sought. However, non-medical persons with a genuine interest and some knowledge of public health are also encouraged to apply.

Additionally, the Human Relations Commission is seeking qualified candidates for appointment as an alternate on the Human Relations Commission (HRC). A candidate with experience in equal opportunity laws, investigation of complaints, dispute resolution including mediation, or as a human relations professional is preferred, but not required.

About the Health Advisory Council:

The HAC is composed of five to seven residents of the Township who serve 4-year terms. The HAC typically meets on the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. The HAC recommends plans and programs to the Board of Commissioners for the protection of the public health of residents within the Township, and advises other Township officials on matters of public health.

About the Human Relations Commission:

The HRC is composed of seven members and two alternates. The HRC typically meets at 7:15 p.m. on the first Thursday of every other month. An HRC alternate may participate in any proceeding or discussion of the HRC but shall not be entitled to vote as a regular member of the HRC unless seated.

The purpose of the HRC is to ensure that all persons, regardless of race, color, religious creed, ancestry, age, sex, national origin, physical or mental disability, use of guide or support animals because of the blindness, deafness or physical or mental disability of the user or because the user is a handler or trainer of support or guide animals,or because of a person's sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression enjoy the full benefits of citizenship and are afforded equal opportunities for employment, housing, commercial property, and the use of public accommodations, in Lower Merion Township.
