Community Development Block Grant Applications Available In Lower Merion Township

Funds help with renovations, preservation, public service activities, and more. Non-profit and government agencies can apply now for funds.

Community Development Block Grant applications are now available in Lower Merion Township, so local non-profit and government organizations with big plans in the township should apply soon.

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program is part of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Funds through the grants allow municipalities to "create viable urban neighborhoods, decent housing, suitable living environments and economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income residents of the Township," according to the township.

Some of the possible work done under CDBGs include:

  • rehabilitation of owner-occupied homes
  • affordable housing activities
  • rehabilitation of community facilities
  • public service activities
  • removal of architectural barriers
  • historic preservation
  • curbing and sidewalk improvements
  • planning studies

To be considered for CDBG funding, a project must accomplish one or more of the CDBG National Objectives and be eligible for funding as set forth in federal regulations. You can see HUD's requirements for CDBG National Objectives online here.

The Application deadline is 4 p.m., Friday, Feb. 10.

Public hearings on the CDBG applications will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 8 and Wednesday, April 12 in the Township’s Board Room at 6 p.m.
