COVID Closes Lower Merion Schools, May Stay Closed For Days

The district closed its schools Monday, and officials said schools will reopen Tuesday if adequate staffing is available.

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — The Lower Merion School District closed schools Monday due to complications related to the coronavirus, and may stay closed for even longer.

District Superintendent Khalid Mumin said in a letter to the school community that all schools closed Monday due to local and county increased coronavirus statistics, new quarantining guidelines, contact tracing issues, and more.

District staff were called in to work Monday, which Mumin said was to allow educators to prepare a potential increase in virtual learning among students, assess which schools may need to shift to virtual learning, test staff, and more.

If schools have adequate staffing, in-person learning will resume Tuesday.

Students should screen daily for symptoms and will also have the option to learn virtually through Jan. 14. Students who choose to learn virtually notify their schools.
