In celebration of Women’s History Month, Falvey Memorial Library announces a moving lecture by the founder and executive director of Philadelphia-based non-profit Mothers In Charge, Dorothy Johnson-Speight. The event is March 15 at 4:00 p.m. in the Library’s first floor lounge. It is free and open to the public.
Mothers In Charge is a grassroots organization working for violence prevention, education and intervention for children, young adults, families and community organizations. Johnson-Speight founded the organization after the 2001 murder of her 24-year-old son over a parking space dispute.
Mothers In Charge has gained national attention and spread to other cities throughout the country. The organization is comprised of courageous mothers, grandmothers, aunts and sisters who have suffered the horror of losing a loved one to violence. These brave women have found the strength to turn a personal tragedy into a catalyst for change.
