Explosive Demolition Work Planned On City Avenue
PennDOT and St. Joe's University said crews will be doing blasting demolition work starting next week on a portion of City Avenue.
LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — Crews will be doing blasting demolition work on City Avenue in Lower Merion and Philadelphia next week as part of St. Joseph’s University dormitory construction, PennDOT and the school said.
Due to the work, periodic weekday traffic stoppages are scheduled on southbound U.S. 1 (City Avenue) between Cardinal Avenue and Lapsley Lane, as well as on northbound U.S. 1 (City Avenue) between Cardinal Avenue and 59th Avenue, in Lower Merion and Philadelphia starting Wednesday, Feb. 14.
These will periodic closures will be in place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Wednesday, March 27, PennDOT said.

St. Joseph's University in a letter to the community said an air horn will sound twice five minutes before blasting, and again one more time one minute before blasting. Another air horn will sound twice when the blasting is "all clear."
The blasting work will not impact schools or other facilities.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur.
