Late LMSD Principal Sean Hughes' Replacement Recommended
Harriton High School Assistant Principal Michael Johnson will be formally recommended to replace the late Sean Hughes next week.

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — A formal recommendation for late Lower Merion High School principal Sean Hughes will be made at the next Lower Merion School District board meeting.
District Superintendent Khalid Mumin said he will formally recommend Harriton High School Assistant Principal Michael Johnson to replace the beloved principal at Monday's board meeting.
"During his time at Harriton, Mr. Johnson has not only developed strong relationships with students, but has also earned the affection and respect of staff, parents, guardians and community members," Mumim said in the annoucement. "He has been an instrumental leader in our Districtwide work in Restorative Practices, for which he is a licensed trainer. He has also served on the Achievement Imperative Task Force, Strategic Plan Leadership Team, CARE, and Health and Safety Committee."

Johnson has been Harriton's assistant principal since 2014 and previously serves as a middle school principal in the Centennial School District, as a curriculum specialist in the Abington School District, and as a sixth-grade teacher.
He holds a bachelor's degree in Education from Temple University and a master's degree in Educational Leadership and a K-12 Principal Certification from Gwynedd Mercy University.

Johnson is now working to earn a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership at Liberty University.
"I am honored and humbled for the opportunity to serve as the next principal of Lower Merion High School," Johnson said. "I look forward to being a part of a team that will cultivate an environment where all members of the school community feel a sense of inclusivity and belonging. I place great value on relationships and community and am excited to join Lower Merion High School as we work to support all students in reaching their aspirations."
"I know that following Mr. Hughes, who was so beloved, will be a challenge," Mumin said. "But I am confident that Mr. Johnson, along with LMHS's stellar and experienced team of assistant principals, will build upon Mr. Hughes's student-centered legacy and character-driven values, leading current and future students to infinite possibilities of success."
The board will meet at 8 p.m. Monday in the board room of the district administrative building, 301 E Montgomery Ave. in Ardmore.
