Holiday Blood Drives Planned In Lower Merion Area

ARDMORE-MERION-WYNNEWOOD, PA — The holidays are about giving more than receiving, and this holiday season you have more chances to give the gift of life at upcoming blood drives in the area.

The American Red Cross is hosting a few drives in Ardmore, Merion, and Wynnewood in the coming days to help ensure patients don’t have to worry about the availability of blood this winter. Blood and platelet donations of all types are needed, especially type O.

Below are the Lower Merion-area drives:

• 12/26/2019: 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., Penn Wynne Presbyterian Church, 130 Haverford Road, Wynnewood
• 12/30/2019: 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., Temple Beth Hillel-Beth El, 1001 Remington Road, Wynnewood
• 1/5/2020: 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., Kaiserman Jewish Community Center, 45 Haverford Road, Wynnewood
• 1/9/2020: 7 a.m. - 5 p.m., Lankenau Medical Center, 100 Lancaster Ave., Wynnewood
• 1/10/2020: 7 a.m. - 5 p.m., Lankenau Medical Center, 100 Lancaster Ave., Wynnewood
• 1/14/2020: 2 p.m. - 7 p.m., St. George's Episcopal Church, 1 W. Ardmore Ave., Ardmore
• 1/15/2020: 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., Kohelet Yeshiva High School, 223 N. Highland Ave., Merion Station

Holiday travel and severe winter weather often lead to a decline in blood donations. However, a patient’s need for lifesaving treatment doesn’t take a vacation or stop for nasty weather.

Blood and platelets are needed every day for those receiving treatment for cancer and leukemia, accident and burn victims and surgical patients, among others.

As a special thank you for being the lifeline for patients this holiday season, those who come out to give blood or platelets with the Red Cross through Jan. 5 will get a long-sleeved Red Cross T-shirt, while supplies last.
