Lankenau Medical Center Earns Cardiovascular Honors For 11th Year
Lankenau Medical Center was named one of the 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals by IBM Watson Health for the 11th year.
WYNNEWOOD, PA — Lankenau Medical Center in Wynnewood has earned a top distinction for its cardiovascular care for the 11th year.
The Main Line Health facility was named among 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals by IBM Watson Health.
The study spotlights the top-performing cardiovascular hospitals in the U.S. based on a balanced scorecard of publicly available clinical, operational and patient satisfaction metrics and data.

This study is part of the IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals program, which uses independent and objective research to analyze hospital and health system performance in key clinical and operational areas for selected cardiovascular procedures and medical care.

Indicators include: risk-adjusted inpatient mortality index, risk-adjusted complications index, mean 30-day risk-adjusted mortality rate, mean 30-day risk-adjusted readmission rate, severity-adjusted length of stay, case mix- and wage-adjusted inpatient cost per case, 30-day episode payment, and adjusted operating profit margin. The study has been conducted annually since 1998.

"Our clinical team works collaboratively to provide expert, patient-centered, human care, with a dedicated focus on superior quality and outcomes, which consistently demonstrates our capabilities as a national leader in delivering advanced cardiac care.
Lankenau Heart Institute’s cardiac experts, who are part of Main Line Health, have received national recognition for their specialized minimally invasive treatment options. Its cardiac surgeons have more experience in minimally invasive robotic coronary artery bypass graft procedures than any other hospital in the country.
The cardiac team has also been recognized for treating heart attack, stroke and cardiac arrest patients, while improving overall quality of care and patient outcomes.
Additionally, Lankenau has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as being among the top five hospitals in the Philadelphia region as well as one of the top 10 hospitals in Pennsylvania.
"Our highly-skilled clinical staff works tirelessly to provide the highest quality of cardiovascular care to our patients, and this recognition serves as validation of that commitment to excellence," said William Gray, MD, system chief of cardiovascular diseases and president of Lankenau Heart Institute.
Based on the results of this year’s study, IBM Watson Health concluded that if all Medicare inpatients received the same level of care as those treated in these award-winning facilities:
- More than 11,000 additional lives could be saved;
- more than 2,800 additional heart patients could be complication-free; and
- and more than $1.5 billion could be saved.
