LMSD Recognizes 75 Merit Semifinalists, Commended Students

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — Thirty-one students from Lower Merion School District high school students who are National Merit Scholarship Competition semifinalists and 44 other students who earned the Commended Student designation were recognized by the Board of School Directors at its meeting on October 21, 2019.

The Merit semifinalists are among about 16,000 Semifinalists recognized overall in the
64th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

These seniors from Lower Merion and Harriton high schools have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million that will be offered next spring.

To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist level of the competition.

Over 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and about half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.
