Lower Merion Lifts Snow Emergency Status

The snow emergency is no longer in effect, however some lingering impacts from Wednesday's storm will affect some township services.

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA – After being under a snow emergency for more than a day, Lower Merion Township has lifted the snow emergency status as of Thursday morning following Wednesday's nor'easter.

The township said crews remain diligently removing snow from roads and addressing other storm impacts.

With the emergency lifted parking restrictions on snow emergency routes are no longer in effect.

The township said residents must clear sidewalks within 24 hours of snow stopping, which is officially 6:01 p.m. Wednesday. Residents are also asked to clear corner sidewalk ramps to the street and from around fire hydrants.

The township is reminding residents that throwing or plowing snow into the street is illegal.

Crews are collecting trash Thursday as long as it is possible, the township said. Not all collections will be able to be made due to road conditions, however.

Back yard collections for Thursday and Friday are suspended due to remaining snow and ice. Can limits will be waived next week for residents on the Wednesday and Friday routes who may not have materials collected this week, the township said.

As of Thursday afternoon, about 1,000 PECO customers in Lower Merion are still without power.

PECO crews are continuing to work to restore power to affected customers. To report an outage, contact PECO at 1-800-841-4141.

The Ardmore and Gladwyne fire houses are open as warming and charging centers 24 hours a day. Bryn Mawr and Penn Wynne fire houses are open for warming and charging from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
