Lower Merion Police, Civilians Honored For Service To Community

These officers and civilians acted under pressure during a standoff, finding a carjacking suspect, stopping a serial predator, and more.

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele recently honored three Lower Merion Police Department members and two civilians for their extraordinary efforts and exemplary work in protecting and serving the community.

At the Montgomery County Fire Academy on May 18, Steele recognized five civilians and 15 law enforcement officers with commendations.

Among those commended were Lower Merion Police Ofc. Eric Curcio, Lt. Edward Sarama, Det. Gregory Pitchford, and civilians Dorothy Coleman and Jody Kelley.

LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMENDATION FOR HEROISM
Ofc. Eric Curcio
For exceptional performance negotiating during a standoff with an intoxicated man waving a
gun, de-escalating the situation, which allowed the man to be safely taken into custody and
obtain needed mental health care.

CITIZEN COMMENDATIONS FOR EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE
Dorothy Coleman, Belmont Hills; Jody Kelley, Belmont Hills
For astutely observing a defendant rummaging through a vehicle in their neighborhood, then
assisting Lower Merion Township Police in locating the vehicle and the defendants, who had
committed an armed carjacking earlier in the evening.

LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMENDATIONS FOR EXCEPTIONAL PERFORMANCE
Lt. Edward Sarama, Det. Gregory Pitchford
For the multi-jurisdictional investigation and key testimony during prosecution of a dangerous serial predator who attempted to rob and kidnap women at gunpoint, seriously injuring two of them.

For the excellent investigation of multiple robberies of 7-Eleven stores in Lower Merion and
Philadelphia.
