Lower Merion Schools 3D Printing Coronavirus Face Shield Parts

The district's Information Services Department will be using the seven 3D printers to print face shield headbands for healthcare workers.

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — Students may not be in school, but schools are still busy, especially the Lower Merion School District.

The district said it is now in the fight against the new coronavirus by way of 3D printing components for face shields used by healthcare workers on the front lines of the COVID-19 fight.

According to the district, its Information Services Department will be using the seven 3D printers to print headbands for face shields to give area facilities more protection during the outbreak

Headbands for face shields will be delivered to a team of volunteers working at the Kohelet Yeshiva in Merion, where the plastic shields will be added to the headbands before being distributed.

The district said, so far, shields have been given to the following medical organizations:

The district hopes to produce at least 70 headbands each week after the printers can safely be brought from the individual schools' maker spaces to the IS Department's offices.
