Lower Merion Schools Closing After Parent Exposed To Coronavirus

The parent of a middle school student and an elementary school student was exposed to a person with the virus.


LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — The Lower Merion School District said it will close Friday and dismiss students early Thursday after a parent of two students was exposed to a person with novel coronavirus, known as COVID-19.

  • Elementary schools — 12:25 p.m.
  • High schools — 1 p.m.
  • Middle schools — 1:35 p.m.

Additionally, all indoor and outdoor after-school activities are canceled.

The parent has students at Welsh Valley Middle School and Penn Valley Elementary School, the district said.

The Montgomery County Office of Public Health has placed the family under quarantine.

Elementary schools were already planning to close early Thursday, and the high schools and middle schools were planning to dismiss early Friday to allow faculty and staff to train for long term closure plans.
