Lower Merion Seeking HARB, Historical Commission Candidates

There are three member positions and two alternative positions that need to be filled. See details on the positions and how to apply here.

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA – Lower Merion Township is looking for five people to serve on the Historical Architectural Review Board (HARB) and Historical Commission (HC) as members and alternate members, respectively, and qualified candidates can apply now through March 29.

There are three HARB member and two HC alternate member positions available. Each position is a five-year term.

According to the township, the HARB and the HC give counsel to the Board of Commissioners regarding the advisability of issuing permits required to be issued with respect to properties located on the Township’s Historic Resource Inventory or in one of the Local Historic Districts.

Historic preservation experience or experience working with historic buildings is required for positions on both the HARB and HC.

One of the three HARB positions requires that the member reside or work in one of the Township’s historic districts. Individuals residing or working in a historic district are strongly encouraged to apply.

As for the HC alternate positions, when seated, an alternate is entitled to participate in all proceedings and discussions of the HC to the same and full extent as provided by law for regular HC members, the township said. An alternate may participate in any proceeding or discussion of the HC but is not entitled to vote as a regular member of the HC unless one of the HC members is not in attendance.

Interested HARB and HC candidates can use this common application form to apply for the positions.
