Lower Merion Students' Startup To Help COVID-Impacted Restaurants

Yumez, pronounced "yum ease," connects hungry people with deals at local restaurants and makes it easy for them to place orders.

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — Two students from Lower Merion High School are using their talents and skills to help coronavirus-impacted restaurants through a new startup.

According to the Lower Merion School District, Lower Merion High School junior Jonathan Xu and senior Elliot Ginzburg created Yumez, a startup that will help hungry potential customers connect with local restaurants and get money-saving deals.

Pronounced "yum ease," the startup will officially launch at 1 p.m Friday at Yapple Yogurt, 50 E. Wynnewood Road in Wynnewood.

Subscribers can text phrases such as, "nearby Chinese" or "pizza in my area" to get targeted promotional deals sent to their phones.

Then subscribers can place orders by texting or calling the restaurant.

More than 200 subscribers are already on board with Yumez, as well as a dozen participating restaurants. Neither the subscribers nor the restaurants are charged for using Yumez.
