Lower Merion Teacher Wins Award from Southern Poverty Law Center

LOWER MERION, PA -- A Lower Merion School District teacher has been awarded with a rare national honor.

The Southern Poverty Law Center has recognized Welsh Valley social studies teacher Frances Weaver for her accomplishments.

She is one of just five teachers nationwide to receive the 2016 Teaching Tolerance Award for Excellence in Teaching, Lower Merion announced.

The award is given twice a year to “visionary classroom teachers based on their dedication to diverse students and their demonstration of teaching practices that exemplify the Teaching Tolerance (TT) mission: reducing prejudice, improving inter-group relationships and promoting equity in schools," according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.
