May The 4th Be With You: LMSD Hosting STEM Night May 4

The district is using official Star Wars day to get kids and their families into STEM activities.

Lower Merion School District is inviting students kindergarten through fifth grade and their families to a science and fun filled night on May 4. On that day, the district is hosting s Family STEM Night where students and the families will enjoy hand-on STEM activities on Star Wars Day.

The science, technology, engineering, and math filled event will take place form 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, May 4 in the Lower Merion High School cafeteria and gymnasium. But you'll want to get there early, as robotics demonstrations will be held from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

A shuttle service will be available between the Ardmore Avenue Community Center and Lower Merion High School, the district said. The shuttle will leave the community center at 6 p.m. and arrive at the high school for the return trip at 8 p.m., according to the district.

With the event nearing, the district is asking students and their families to help out by donating materials to the event.

Anyone wishing to donate to the event should send the following items to your child’s teacher in a bag marked "Family STEM Night" by Monday, May 1:

  • Toilet paper rolls
  • Paper towel rolls
  • Egg cartons
  • Small plastic containers (applesauce, yogurt, etc., washed out and rinsed clean)
  • Cereal boxes

The STEM night will feature a space theme as it will be held on Star Wars Day.
