Merion Friends Meeting Gets $25K Historic Preservation Grant

MERION STATION, PA — Merion Friends Meeting in Merion station has been awarded a sizable grant that will help keep the historic building intact and in good shape.

State Rep. Mary Jo Daley, D-Montgomery, announced today that Merion Friends Meeting was awarded a $25,000 Keystone Historic Preservation grant from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.

Among 57 statewide grants awarded through a competitive selection process, the funding for Merion Friends Meeting will go toward rectifying continued deterioration of the historic site.

A preservation architect, engineers and conservators will perform a conditions assessment and provide recommendations for preservation of the site, including the meetinghouse, horse and wagon sheds, activities building, and the 1804 Joseph Price House.

“The preservation of our nation’s history is a key responsibility of the commonwealth, the place where so much of its early development took place,” Daley said. “I am so pleased to see this National Historic Landmark receive these funds to help develop a comprehensive preservation plan.”

The stone meeting house construction began in 1695 and was completed in 1715.
