Music Students Excel at WMA

Two WMA musicians selected to participate in this year's Archdiocesan Festival Band

Students at Waldron Mercy Academy are not only dedicated to academic success, the strive for excellence in their extracurricular activities as well. From theater to athletics to academic clubs, our students work hard to achieve success. This year, two students in grade five, Max Miller and Spencer Cordes, who participate in private music lessons at Waldron Mercy auditioned for and were selected for the Archdiocesan Festival Band. Competing for seats against hundreds of children in the Archdiocese, Max and Spencer were honored to be selected as two trumpeters for this year’s concert.

Because of the number of students who participate and vast locations around the area from which they are drawn, the students in the band are challenged to work on their own to practice and perfect the seven or eight songs to be performed at the concert. One of which, “Ode de Louie” (a combination of “Ode to Joy” and “Louie Louie”) is a fan favorite of the WMA trumpeters! Max and Spencer have worked tirelessly on their own at home, and with their music teacher Mrs. Trish Giangiulio, to get in tune for the show. Max Miller spoke about how excited he was to be chosen for the band. “I was really happy because there were a lot of kids and I was really nervous.”
The Archdiocesan Festival Band will perform this upcoming Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Cardinal O’Hara High School.
