Over 70 Percent Voter Turnout In Lower Merion Township Tuesday

Data from Montgomery County shows voters in Lower Merion Township were out in force during Tuesday's general election.

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA – The 2018 general election was touted as one of the most important elections in history, so naturally voters came out strong to cast ballots. And droves of Lower Merion Township voters went to the polls Tuesday.

According to data from Montgomery County, 33,629 voted in Lower Merion Township – including absentee ballots.

There are 47,602 registered voters in the township of roughly 58,000 people.

County data shows that 70.65 percent of registered voters in the township cast ballots Tuesday.

That's nearly presidential election-level turnout, as in the 2016 election 77 percent of registered voters went to the polls.

In the 2014 midterm elections, just 55 percent of voters turned out, per historical county data.

Lower Merion voters cast 26,447 votes for Gov. Tom Wolf, who beat challenger Scott Wagner.

In the senate contest, 26,093 votes for Sen. Bob Casey in his race against Republican challenger State Rep. Lou Barletta.

Democrat Mary Gay Scanlon earned 13,888 votes in the 5th District to beat Republican Pearl Kim.

Figures provided by the county for Tuesday election are still unofficial.
