Parents of Lankenau Medical Center Babies Host Event to Support the Hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Newtown Square Couple Holds Event for Lankenau's NICU

Newtown Square residents Charlie and Meghan Houder and the Lankenau Medical Center (LMC) Foundation, part of Main Line Health (MLH) recently hosted an event for 75 friends, family and colleagues, in support of the hospital’s Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The Houders had all four of their children at LMC, with their first born receiving care in the NICU.

At the event, MLH Neonatal System Chief Glenn Kaplan, MD, discussed the future of Lankenau’s NICU as it continues to care for premature babies, in particular the use of human donor milk and a new human milk fortifier to help at risk, premature babies thrive. LMC President Phil Robinson shared with the attendees how LMC stands at the ready to care for even the smallest of patients in the community, and reiterated what an honor it is care for babies and their families at their time of greatest need.

LMC’s NICU is staffed by board-certified Nemours Alfred I. duPont neonatologists and houses 18 bassinettes and state-of-the-art monitors and equipment. Babies received round-the-clock neonatal intensive care provided by physicians and support staff including nurses, respiratory therapists, social workers and occupational and physical therapists. The NICU team also has the ability to call on other pediatric subspecialists including cardiologists, pulmonologists (lung specialists) and pediatric neurologists as needed.
