Petrie's Hat-Trick pushes Aces past Patriots

The Lower Merion Girls Varsity team traveled to Archbishop Carroll on Wednesday to take on the Patriots.

The girls varsity soccer team of Lower Merion added another win to their record Wednesday afternoon by traveling to Archbishop John Carroll, to claim a 4-1 victory.

Leading the charge for the Aces was sophomore forward Moira Petire, whose three goal effort played a major role in the team's success.   Her play set the tone for the rest of the game, as the Aces never looked back after taking the lead.

The first half saw Lower Merion dominate in both time of possession and quality scoring chances.  Almost all of the Aces best looks at the goal came as a result of winning one-on-one battles in the offensive zone, most of which were sparked by the forwards' evasive footwork.  Those opportunities led to a major offensive surge, including a sixteen minute span where Lower Merion scored all four of their goals.

The second half was notably quieter as the Aces played slightly more conservative with a four goal lead.  Their shutout was foiled late in the second half, when Archbishop scored their only goal with under two minutes to play.

After the game, head coach Kevin Ries spoke on his team's play, "I think we played well, we were able to get into a lot of one-on-one situations and score as a result of good footwork."

Moiria Petrie attributed her success to hard work, "I was playing with a lot of intensity and trying my hardest, keeping my head up and looking for the gaps."

The Aces play their next game at home on Monday, Sept. 13 against Ridley High School.
