Police: More than $60 Grand Taken in One Night From Merion Home

The crime was one of two burglaries and two thefts in the area over the last two weeks.

According to Lower Merion Township Police reports released on Tuesday, Sept. 7, a burglary on the 500 block of General Lafayette Road in Merion set the homeowners back over $60,000 worth of cash and jewelry.

The burglar is believed to have entered through an unsecured window while the homeowners were away overnight on Aug. 30, according to police. As of Sept. 7, no suspect had been arrested for the crime.

The burglary was one of two reported by police in the Ardmore, Merion and Wynnewood areas since the end of August. There were also two thefts. It is not known if any of the crimes are related.

Burglary with Force

Also on Aug. 30, a home on the 500 block of Howe Road in Merion was burglarized by force, according to police. The homeowners were away for several days when a burglar entered by force through a rear door and took an undisclosed amount of cash and jewelry, according to the police report. As of Sept. 7 no suspect had been arrested.

Retail Theft

Genuardi's grocery story in Wynnewood was the victim of a retail theft on Sept. 3, according to police. At 1:20 p.m., an individual is said to have vacated the store with $230 worth of merchandise, according to police. Witnesses obtained a license plate number for the suspect, who had not yet been arrested as of Sept. 7.

Bicycle Theft

Two bicycles were taken from an unlocked shed of a house on the 1400 block of Hillside Road in Wynnewood on Sept. 5, according to police reports. Taken were one kids bicycle and one adult bicycle with a combined value of $450. No suspect had been apprehended as of Sept. 7.
