Search On For Lower Merion School District's Next Superintendent

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — The Lower Merion School District is on the search for its next leader following Superintendent Robert Copeland's recent retirement announcement.
President of the Lower Merion Board of School Directors Lucy Klain Thursday said the district is now in the process of finding its new superintendent.

Klain said to help in the search, the district hired the consulting firm Hazard, Young Attea & Associates, which specializes in assisting school boards in identifying and recruiting executive level educational leaders.
The firm's process entails engagement, recruitment, selection, and transition.

Additionally, the district is holding an Ad Hoc Superintendent Search Committee planning meeting at 7 p.m. Monday. The meeting may cover community engagement opportunities, search protocols, and the timeline, the district said.

As an outcome of the Monday's meeting, the board will opportunities for both internal and external stakeholders to provide input for the development of the desired characteristics of the next superintendent. These may include a community survey, interviews, focus groups and community forums.
Klain said the district hopes to have Hazard, Young Attea & Associates present results of the engagement phase at a second Ad Hoc Superintendent Search Committee meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 24.
After the development of the leadership characteristics, the recruitment phase will begin.
"We look forward to and encourage community involvement in the engagement phase of the search process," Klain said. "We hope to keep the process transparent through updates on the District website, social media channels, school and HSA newsletters."
