Target's 'Small Format' Store To Open In Ardmore In 2019

Despite community push back, the project to develop a Target at Lancaster and Ardmore avenues in Ardmore has a tentative opening time frame.

ARDMORE, PA – Despite community members' push back against a proposed Target at Lancaster and Ardmore avenues in Ardmore, the retail giant announced Tuesday, Dec. 19 that the store in Ardmore will open sometime in 2019.

The location near the intersection will be the company's eighth "small-format" store in the Philadelphia area. One opened near the Philadelphia Art Museum in October.

Target representatives said the store will employ 50 to 70 people and offer "a curated assortment mix" for shoppers.

The store – which was met with protests from community members who said the store would hinder already-troubling traffic in the area – will be about 31,000 square feet and feature a grocery selection, beauty products, baby care and kids products, select toys and sporting good, me and women's apparel, and a CVS Pharmacy and Order Pickup.

"Our new Ardmore store will offer guests a convenient, one-stop shopping experience on the Main Line near the Ardmore Station and Haverford College," Mark Schindele, senior vice president of Target Properties, said in a statement.

The company said it hopes to expand its customer base by opening more small-format stores in dense suburban neighborhoods, urban areas, and near college campuses.

"We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Target and welcome the first small-format store to the Ardmore community," Joseph Hopkins, CEO of RMC Developments LLC, said in a statement. "The store’s convenient location and curated assortment will be a great asset for residents, college students and commuters."

The store will be located below a 35-unit apartment complex at that site.
