Taxes Going Up In Lower Merion School District's 2018-19 Budget

Residents in Lower Merion and Narberth will see a higher tax bill after the Lower Merion School Board OKed a budget with a tax hike.

ARDMORE, PA – Lower Merion Township and Narberth Borough residents will see a higher tax bill next year as the Lower Merion School Board voted earlier this week to approve the 2018-2019 budget, which includes a tax hike.

The $271.7 million budget was given approval at the Monday, June 11 meeting, the same meeting during which the board moved ahead with purchasing the Islamic Foundation Center in Villanova to build a new school.

A 28.7477 mill rate was adopted in the budget. that rate marks a 2.4 percent increase, the most allowed under the Act 1 index without exceptions granted, from the previous year's rate.

With a 28.7477 rate, a property assessed at $250,680 will see a property tax bill of about $7,206. That's about $168 higher than what the most recent tax bill would be for a property of the same assessment value.

As one can imagine, the district's continued growth is the catalyst for increasing taxes.
