Threat Made Against Wynnewood Jewish Day School

Officials said the threat was made via phone and sounded like a digital voice, not a human speaking.

A Jewish day school in Wynnewood was among one of several Jewish centers that received threats Monday, causing many of the centers to evacuate in response.

The Perelman Jewish Day School and the nearby Kaiserman JCC were evacuated Monday morning after receiving the threat at about 10:45 a.m., Kaiserman JCC CEO Amy Krulik said.

Students returned to the building after a police investigation found no indication of a device on the site, according to Lower Merion Public Information Office Tom Walsh.

Perelman Head of School Judy Groner said the students, faculty, and staff were very calm during the incident, which ended just after noon.

"The students were with teacher who they know love and protect them," Groner said.

Walsh said the search involved bomb-sniffing dogs from the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and the Radnor Police Department.

According to Walsh, the threat came in via phone and was made in a "computer type voice," similar to other calls around the region and the nation today.

"Perelman and other Jewish agencies are very well-trained on this situation and nothing comes before safety," Steven Rosenberg, marketing officer for the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia told Philly.com.

Groner said everyone at the school follow the protocol extremely well during the incident, saying drills helped students follow the plan.

Unfortunately, Groner said this is not the first time the school received a threat.

About this time last year a threat came in to the school, she said.
