There are a few new kids on the block on the Philadelphia restaurant scene, and it's not a secret any longer.
Two Philadelphia restaurants have been named among the 50 best new restaurants in the nation in a new list released by the culinary and entertainment magazine Bon Appétit.
South Philly Barbacoa and Wm. Mulherin's Sons were two of the seven restaurants from the list's mid-Atlantic region which made the list. Three were from Washington, D.C. and two others were from Pittsburgh. New York led all cities on the list with five restaurants, while Los Angeles and Chicago had four each.

South Philly Barbacoa, a Mexican-inspired joint, is on East Passayunk Crossing on 1703 S. 11th Street. Bon Appétit points out that their specialty is their lamb.
Wm. Mulherin's Sons, meanwhile, is in Fishtown on 1355 North Front Street. Their specialties are pizza, pasta, and fancy bar snacks, but they also have a diverse cocktail and beer menu. Their website states they are a "rustic Italian-influenced neighborhood joint, with a focus on pizza and other wood-fired fare. Our seasonally driven menu is casual but sophisticated, emphasizing the smokiness and char that true wood-fired cooking makes possible. Simply put: urban, wood-fired Italian."
