Vacancies On 3 Lower Merion Advisory Boards Need To Be Filled

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — Three advisory board in Lower Merion Township have vacancies, and the township is looking to fill them with qualified residents.

According to the township, seats need to be filled on the Environmental Advisory Council, the Shade Tree Commission, and the Human Relations Commission.

Qualified Lower Merion Township residents interested in serving on the boards should complete the application form, which is available online here.

Environmental Advisory Council
The Environmental Advisory Council is composed of not more than nine residents of the township who serve 4-year terms of office. The council typically meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. The council provides advice to the Board of Commissioners and Planning Commission for the promotion and conservation of natural resources and for the protection and improvement of the quality of the environment within the Township. Professional experience in natural ecosystems, native plants, green infrastructure, sustainable building design or green buildings is required.

Shade Tree Commission
The Shade Tree Commission is composed of not more than nine residents of the township who serve 5-year terms of office. The commission typically meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. The commission has exclusive custody and control of all shade trees on township property and is authorized to plant, remove, maintain and protect all shade trees on the public streets and highways in accordance with the published rules and regulations of the Township. Professional experience in arboriculture, forestry or landscape design/architecture is required.

Human Relations Commission (alternate)
The Human Relations Commission is composed of seven members and two alternates. The commission typically meets at 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of every other month. An alternate may participate in any proceeding or discussion of the commission but shall not be entitled to vote as a regular member of the commission unless seated. The purpose of the commission is to ensure that all persons, regardless of race, color, religious creed, ancestry, age, sex, national origin, physical or mental disability, use of guide or support animals because of the blindness, deafness or physical or mental disability of the user or because the user is a handler or trainer of support or guide animals, or because of a person's sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression enjoy the full benefits of citizenship and are afforded equal opportunities for employment, housing, commercial property, and the use of public accommodations, in Lower Merion Township. Professional experience in equal opportunity laws, investigation of complaints, dispute resolution including mediation, or as a human relations professional is required.
