Volunteers Sought For LMSD's Sleep, School Start Time Study

The Lower Merion School District wants your help in moving forward with potential new start time for its schools.

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — The Lower Merion School District is looking for people to weigh in on potential new start times as the Sleep and School Start Times Focus Exploration Team moves ahead with looking into sleeping and school start times.

The exploration team has launched a new survey to identify community members who are interested in volunteering their time to the district's consideration of new school schedules.

Officials began the foray into potential schedule changes based on major health organizations recommending secondary school days start after 8:30 a.m. to promote better sleep health among adolescent students.

The district is looking for volunteers to represent key stakeholder perspectives on an advisory committee that will begin meeting in late April.

Those include students, parents, guardians, school neighbors, local businesses, after school activity providers, teachers, and faith organizations.

However, there will be other opportunities to contribute in the coming months prior to the Board of School Directors taking action on this issue this winter.

The short questionnaire is open until noon on Tuesday, April 2.

You will receive a confirmation email from SurveyGizmo within moments after you submit.

The Focus Exploration Team will send information to potential committee members on Friday, April 5 and information about other volunteer opportunities thereafter.
