Wynnewood Native Earns Prestigious Award

Olivia Brody-Bizar, William Penn Charter School Class of 2017, will attend Dartmouth this fall after excelling in high school.

WYNNEWOOD, PA – A Wynnewood native and Willam Penn Charter School Class of 2017 graduate earned a prestigious award upon graduating from the school.

Olivia Brody-Bizar was among a handful of students honored at the school's June 10 graduation ceremony.

She received the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa Award for outstanding scholarship. In the fall, she will attend Dartmouth College.

Some of Brody-Bizar’s achievements were also recognized at the school’s end-of-year awards ceremony on May 26.

She was one of three students to receive the Service Learning Award, which is given to those who served Penn Charter’s ideals of community service. She was also co-chair of the Service Council her senior year, serving as a leader at weekly meetings and actively trying to understand social issues in Philadelphia in an effort to get younger people more involved.

“Olivia always had a desire to learn more so that she could extend her base of knowledge, particularly in education and equality,” said Sharon Ahram, assistant director of the school’s Center for Public Purpose. “She is a leader and mentor.”

She took home the Kenneth A. Gerber Award for Outstanding Intellectual Achievement, as well as Penn Charter’s History Prize, given to a senior who exhibits proficiency in U.S. History.

Brody-Bizar also displayed an aptitude for language, winning the Chinese Prize, committing herself to mastering Chinese, understanding the culture and using that knowledge to communicate with others.

She was inducted into the Cum Laude Society as a junior and recognized again as a senior by the national honor society.

Brody-Bizar was a member of the varsity tennis team, helping win a league title as a senior.
