Plantings and Improvements are Planned for the New Lower Merion Township Park
In celebration of Earth Day 2012, the Friends of the Cynwyd Heritage Trail (FOCHT) will be holding volunteer workdays on Saturday, April 21st and Sunday, April 22nd, 2012 on the Cynwyd Heritage Trail. The free event will run from 9 AM until 1 PM and will be held rain or shine.
The Friends will gather at the Trail’s Barmouth Station Trailhead at the end of East Levering Mill Road (cross street: Belmont Avenue) in Bala Cynwyd, Pa. Attendees are being asked to wear their green Friends t-shirts or work clothes and to bring re-usable water bottles and work gloves if they have them. Basic tools, training and gloves will be provided at the event.

On Sunday the 22nd, members of Lower Merion Township’s Environmental Advisory Council will be in attendance to share tips on storm water management for residential properties. The advice is free and open to the public. Also, plantings and improvements are planned in honor of Earth Day. Of course, refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Cynwyd Heritage Trail.
Says Selene George, Board President of the Friends of the Cynwyd Heritage Trail, “The Friends are excited to have the opportunity to support Earth Day while having fun with neighbors and fellow Friends of the Cynwyd Heritage trail.” Additionally, through the volunteers’ work hours, the Trail becomes eligible for future grants, which are needed for future trail improvements.

The Friends of the Cynwyd Heritage Trail (FOCHT) was founded in 2008 by a group of dedicated volunteers committed to supporting the construction of the Trail. Currently, the Friends focus on supporting the volunteer efforts in beautifying the park. In the future, the group hopes to support the recreational and educational resources of the park and provide for trail amenities.
