Mike Deuber is in a tough spot.
The senior linebacker is a bright spot on a young team that’s maturing with each week as it moves along the Central League schedule.
The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Deuber forced two fumbles and made 10 tackles in Haverford High School’s 40-7 victory over the Aces last Friday night.

Deuber keeps a positive outlook, despite a 1-2 start. Lower Merion has a chance to even its record when it hosts Neumann-Goretti at 1 p.m. Saturday.
“The seniors tell the younger players to keep their heads and with a team like Neumann-Goretti coming in, it’s a team we can play with,” Deuber said. “My coaches tell me to keep putting effort and work into it, things will turn out better. Sooner or later, things will get better. I went through the 0-11 season last year, and my sophomore year, we won three games. It’s been a hard high school career, but my brothers keep me positive and think over everything with me.”

Deuber is looking to play football in college. He’s hoping his play his senior year gains some college attention.
“My focus right now is this season, and we’ll see where things go after that,” Deuber said. “I still think we can do some good things this year.”
