Lower Merion Makes a Change at Quarterback

A junior replaces a senior behind center.

football coach Jon Rothberg has decided to make a switch at quarterback, moving senior Desmond Ellis, who had been the starter, has been moved to wide receiver in favor of junior Anton Noverhends.

The Aces are coming off to Marple Newtown—but that was also the result of four fumbles in the first half. Each fumble led to a Marple Newtown score. Noverhends, a transfer from Harriton, actually did a decent job of moving the Aces offense in his second start.

“Anton threw the ball well and he did a lot of good things against a good Marple Newtown team, it came down to us hurting ourselves,” Rothberg said. “I’m not delusional, but Anton is moving in the right direction as a quarterback and leading this team. He gives us a spark on offense—and we get to use Ellis at his more natural position, at receiver. Desmond is a very good athlete, and we have Anton that can get him the ball.”
