Narberth Man's Killer Gets Life Without Parole

Derrick Hershal Rollins will spend the rest of his life behind bars after gunning down Narberth's John Le in cold blood two years ago.

NARBERTH, PA — The man who gunned down Narberth's John Le in July 2017 will spend the rest of his life behind bars, according to Delaware County authorities.

Delaware County District Attorney Katayoun M. Copeland said Friday that Derrick Hershal Rollins, 25, of Philadelphia, was sentenced to life without parole followed by a consecutive 16 to 32 years for Le's murder on July 29, 2017 in Haverford Township. Rollins also attempted to kill two other people that same day.

Rollins was convicted of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted homicide, and two counts of aggravated assault by a jury on March 14, 2019.

At about 6:10 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2017, Haverford Township Police were dispatched to the 2300 block of Haverford Road in Haverford Township for the report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, the victim, later identified as Le, was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound to his chest and hand, lying in the vestibule at the entrance of the building on the 2300 block of Haverford Road.

Le was transported to Lankenau Hospital where he later was pronounced dead.

An investigation into the homicide was immediately launched and the crime scene was processed.

As the result of the investigation, along with witness testimony, it was confirmed that on the evening of July 29, 2017, Rollins shot and killed John Le and that a half hour earlier that evening, Rollins had attempted to kill two other men in the Overbrook Park section of Philadelphia, firing his weapon at them 17 times.

After Rollins was identified as the shooter, he was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals in DeKalb County Georgia and later extradited to Philadelphia, then Delaware County to answer to his charges.
