Viewfinder: Narberth Runners Raise Money to Fight Cystic Fibrosis
A cold rain could not put a damper on 497 runners.
On Saturday morning in a heavy rain, almost 500 runners assembled to compete in the Narberth Cystic Fibrosis Run, an annual event that started in 1995. Proceeds from the 5-mile run are used to "to fulfill the wishes and dreams of children living with CF by giving them a respite from the havoc this disease plays on their young lives," according to organizers. Most often those young patients have wishes fulfilled like trips to special places or events.
Ashley Owens of Spring City, PA, who overcame the disease with a lung transplant as a child, sang the national anthem. NBC-10 broadcast journalist Doug Schimell started the race and emceed the event, keeping the few hardy spectators entertained with continuing commentary as the runners traveled the course through the streets of Narberth.
Winning the race with a time of 28:43 was Kevin Trainer of Bala Cynwyd. Zach Katz from the Bronx, NY, finished second with a time of 29:14. Third place was taken by Andrew Bove of Philadelphia with a time of 29:14. Seven-year-old Eli Foreman of Wynnewood was the first of several children to finish with a time of 37:45.

Narberth Mayor Tom Grady was on hand to announce and congratulate the winners who received medals and awards. He thanked all the runners for making the event a success in spite of the cold and rain. Our gallery tells the rest of the story.
