7-Year-Old Girl Drowns In Baldwin Pool

The victim and others apparently were trespassing at a neighbor's residence when the incident occurred.

BALDWIN, PA - A 7-year-old girl drowned in an above-ground pool at an Elmwood Drive residence that she and others were using while the owners were away.

Jessica Basnet of Carrick was visiting the next-door neighbors of Janell Loman. Basnet and several others were using the pool Thursday while the Loman family was out of town on vacation, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.

An adult woman was watching the child at the time but left her unsupervised for several minutes, borough police chief Michael Scott told the newspaper. Scott said that neither Jessica or the adult watching her knew how to swim.

Loman told the Post-Gazette that her neighbors have frequently used her pool without her permission. Scott said he wasn’t aware of any history of difficulty between the Loman and her neighbors.

Allegheny County Police homicide detectives are continuing to investigate the incident.
