Due to COVID precautions, visitors will not be allowed to attend this year. Kathleen Rock, teacher at J.E. Harrison Education Center, shares, "We encourage all staff and all students to display their heritage proudly and share stories about their culture on these days. We love to showcase different cultures and let them celebrate their differences in a fun way."
She notes the excitement is palpable as students arrive in festive garb. Last year, her third-grade students took part in a cultural dance. She recalls, "I chose a Nepali song and their faces just lit up when they heard the music and they started to dance. I think this is a healthy way to include everybody and it breeds acceptance at school."
