Baldwin Boys Place Fifth at State Team Bowling Championships

Despite Hartman’s stellar 707 series during the team championships event – the second-highest individual series total during team play – the Highlanders’ five-man squad was left out of the team championship match, which featured the two highest-scoring teams.
Still, Baldwin’s quintet of Hartman, junior Neil Debski () and seniors Matt Groesch, Tyler Sterrett and Jim Stoicovy finished in a respectable fifth place out of 12 schools by totaling a score of 4,236.

Games of 225, 235 and 247 (in that order) made up Hartman’s 707. Debski rolled 216, 219 and 201 games to total 636. The rest of the Highlanders’ team score was made up of Groesch’s 630 (173, 268 and 189), Sterrett’s 609 (215, 214 and 180) and Stoicovy’s 538 (155, 214 and 169).
Baldwin also put together team baker sets of 539 (162, 189 and 188) and 577 (216, 177 and 184), but it was Garden Spot and Hempfield high schools that earned spots in the baker-sets final with overall team scores of 4,378 and 4,358, respectively.

Hempfield ended up outscoring Garden Spot in the first three games of the best-of-five championship, giving Hempfield the 2011 state team championship, 3-0.
Baldwin did not send a team to the state girls team championships.
