Baldwin Football's Jay Morrison Recovering at Children's Hospital

Baldwin High School's junior defensive back Jay Morrison has delivered some of his team's biggest hits this year, but during Friday night's Homecoming loss to Woodland Hills High School, he also absorbed the biggest hit.

With the Wolverines up, 7-0, late in the first quarter and driving in Baldwin territory, senior running back Alex Beasley ran over Morrison—the Highlanders' leading tackler—on a nine-yard gain.

The tale of the tape: Beasley, 6 feet, 230 lbs; Morrison, 5 feet 9 inches, 175 pounds.

"When I hit No. 2 (Morrison)—God bless 'im—but I saw the middle was open, one cut and upfield, and I squared my shoulders," Beasley said when describing the play.

The game was delayed for several minutes while Morrison was taken from the field on a stretcher by a crew from Medical Rescue Team South Authority. Baldwin Head Coach Jim Wehner said after the game that Morrison had suffered a concussion and a shoulder injury.

A TV news crew from WPXI caught up with Morrison on Monday at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, where he is still recovering, and reported that he is in good spirits.

In fact, Morrison said that he hopes to play again this year.
