Baldwin High School's `Zorro' Nominated For A Dozen Gene Kelly Awards
The high school's recent production was nominated in nearly every Kelly category.

BALDWIN, PA - Baldwin High School’s “Zorro: The Musical” certainly left its mark on the judges who make the nominations for the Pittsburgh CLO’s Gene Kelly Awards for Excellence in High School Musical Theater. The school’s recent production of the musical netted it a dozen nominations for the upcoming awards, the CLO announced on Wednesday.
“Zorro” was nominated for the following:
- Best musical, budget level 3
- Best actor: Nick Cortazzo, who played Zorro.
- Best actress: Morgan Traud, who played Lisa Pulido.
- Best supporting actress: Katherine Zemaitis, who played Inez the gypsy.
- Best all-student orchestra.
- Best direction.
- Best musical direction: Jason Coll.
- Best choreography.
- Best crew/technical execution
- Best ensemble
- Best lighting design
- Best costume design.
“Zorro”’s competition for best musical in its budget level is West Allegheny’s production of “Thoroughly Modern Millie” and Woodland Hills’ production of “Monty Python’s Spamalot.”

Baldwin is one of 27 western Pennsylvania high schools competing in the 27th annual Gene Kelly Awards, which will be held May 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the Benedum Center, Downtown.
