Good Afternoon Baldwin-Whitehall Community,

As schools across the region continue to wrestle with how to get students back into classrooms for the beginning of the school year, conditions in which we are working continue to change and be made more difficult. Today, Governor Wolf released a recommendation to all public schools that sports should be delayed until January 1, 2021, to help slow the spread of COVID-19. I have attached a link as well as the text of the news release to this email.
Please know that as with all aspects of reopening schools, we take this matter seriously. Sports and activities such as marching band are core components of what make the school experience for children special and meaningful.

The District administration will continue to seek clarity and guidance from the Department of Education, Department of Health, PIAA and WPIAL in regards to this matter. As stated in the release, there is not a mandate to close and decisions will be left up to the local school boards. If and until such decision is made by the Board of School Directors of the Baldwin-Whitehall School District, our District will proceed with the organized activities as currently scheduled related to sports and marching band. We will continue to adhere to CDC guidance to keep your children, sponsors and coaches safe. I am very proud of the work being done by all of these groups so far this summer in this area and can only expect that same high level of commitment will continue as we move closer to the start of school.
Each day seems to present a new challenge for schools trying to meet the needs of children. And it is frustrating. But I appreciate your support and understanding as we all work together.
Sincerely,
Randal A. Lutz, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
