Baldwin's Drew Hartman Wins State Bowling Title

The Highlanders sent four competitors to the individual championships in Limerick, Pa.

 sent three boys and one girl to the Pennsylvania state individual bowling championships on Friday, including a runaway boys state champion in senior Drew Hartman.

Hartman, who lost to teammate and junior Neil Debski at – Debski eventually became the boys 2011 regional champion – rebounded at the state event on Friday and dominated the field at Limerick Bowl in Limerick, Pa., on his way to becoming Pennsylvania's best.

Hartman topped 23 other bowlers in the state championships' qualifying round with a six-game total of 1,525, including the highest possible imperfect score of 299 in his fourth game.

The 1,525 total gave Hartman the top seed and a guaranteed spot in the final of the head-to-head portion of the championships.

Only the top five bowlers from the qualifying round earned spots in the head-to-head section, which did not include Baldwin's other bowlers – Debski and senior Jim Stoicovy.

Debski rolled his way to a 1,197 total to place 17th, while Stoicovy scored a 1,093 to place 22nd.

Hartman found himself pitted against Garden Spot High School's senior Matt Detrick in the head-to-head final and blew Detrick away, 290-188, to win the boys 2011 state crown.

Baldwin's junior Ashley Niziol was the lone Highlanders girl competing at the state championships. Niziol placed 16th out of 24 girls bowlers with a 1,140 total.

As with the boys side, only the top five bowlers from the qualifying round advanced to the head-to-head portion of the championships.
